Kirana /keer-ana/ (noun) - In India, a small, usually family-owned shop selling groceries and other sundries. 

A word used in many South Asian homes to start the day. A word that brings up memories of mouth watering smells and flavors. A word reminiscent of mom holding your hand and walking you to the Kirana to buy ingredients fresh from the mills and the fields. Kirana - where colorful sights and smells remind us of Mother Earth's bounty.
